Hi, my name is Jessica Kim. My presentation today is about the geography of Canada.
First, I want to talk about the size of Canada.Canada is the second largest country in the world. It is bigger than China. Australia, Brazil, and the United States. The country is even bigger than the entire European Union! IT IS HUGE!
There are a total of thirteen sections in Canada. These sections are called either ‘provinces’ or ‘territories’. Among the thirteen sections, ten are provinces and three are territories. Quebec is the largest province with a size of 1,365,128Km^2. Prince Edward Island, on the other hand, is the smallest province in Canada with a size of 5,660Km^2.
The capital city of Canada is Ottawa. But it is not the largest city in Canada. The largest city in Canada is Toronto. The city has a bigger population than any other city in Canada. Canada also has the longest coastline in the world. The country borders on three different oceans. The Pacific Ocean is on the west side of Canada. the Atlantic Ocean is on the east side, and the Arctic Ocean is on the north side.
Canada is also very famous for its magnificent nature. The country has large lakes, dense forests, and high mountains. Canada has more than 30,000 lakes, and some of them are really large. The largest lake in Canada is Lake Superior. It is also the largest freshwater lake in the world too. The lake is as large as the size of South Korea. The tallest mountain in Canada is Mount Logan in Yukon Territory. It is 5,956m high. It is taller than any other mountain in Korea. May forests in Canada are Canada’s notional parks. And they are bigger than some smaller countries in the world.
In conclusion, Canada is a really big country with lots of large lakes and tall mountains.

→ (기본) 두 개 씩 끊어 읽음

1506 fifteen oh six (두 개로 나눴을 때 0이 앞에오면 oh로 읽음)
1600 sixteen hundred (뒤 숫자가 모두 0이면 hundred를 붙임)
2012 twenty twelve / two thousand (and) twelve (2000년도는 숫자 읽는 방식과 두 개씩 끊어 읽는 방식이 함께 쓰임)

과거 시제와 함께 쓰는 표현들

* 연도 앞에 the, 뒤에 ‘-s’를 붙이면 연대를 나타낼 수 있음 (the 1960s)

→ 시제와 상관 없이 be동사 뒤에 ‘not’
I was not a doctor. = I wasn’t a doctor.
We were not doctors. = We weren’t doctors.
be동사 과거 의문문
→ 주어, 동사(be동사) 위치 변경
Was you a teacher? (you를 단수로 사용)
Were you teachers? (you를 복수로 사용)
6. 요약
숫자를 읽을 때는 쉼표를 기준으로 세 개의 숫자를 백 단위로 읽은 다음, 쉼표에 준하는 숫자 단위인 thousand / million / billon을 해당 자리에 추가하여 말한다.
영어에서 서수 표현은 기본적으로 알고있는 숫자 표현에 -th를 붙여서 만들지만, 일부 예외인 숫자들은 따로 기억해두자. (첫번째 ~ 세번째, 21~29 등)
장소, 연도, 월, 계절, 월+연도에는 전치사 in 을 사용한다.
요일, 월+일, 월+일+연도에는 전치사 on을 사용한다.
be동사의 과거형: 단수(was), 복수(were)
be동사 과겨의 부정문/의문문 만드는 방법은 현재형과 동일하다.
부정문: be동사 뒤에 not
의문문: 주어, be동사 위치 변경
7. 응용문장
A: How tall are you?
B: I’m 187. (one hundred eighty-seven)
A: Oh, I see. You are very tall.
B: I was 173 (one hundred seventy-three) last year.
A: No way! That’s great! Good for you. I am so jealous of you. I am about 170 (one hundred seventy).

9. 느낀점
지난시간에 배운 비교급과 최상급의 학습이 제대로 이뤄지지 않았는지 이번주 학습을 하면서 계속 넘겨봤다..ㅠㅠ
아직도 조금 개념이 애매하게 자리 잡고 있는 것 같아서 큰일이다. 평소에 영어를 쓸 때는 크게 중요하게 생각하지 않고 대충 쓰는대로 썼던 것 같은데 .. ㅎㅎ 제대로 공부하니 조금 헷갈린다. 사실 복습을 안해서 그런 것 같긴하지만 .. 이번주까지는 너무 바빴고 5단계가 끝나기 전에 정말 전체 복습을 한 번 해야겠다.
이번주는 숫자를 읽는 법과 be동사 과거에 대해서 배웠다. 숫자는 다 읽을 줄 안다고 생각했는데 이번에 공부해보니 지금까지 잘못 읽고 있었다. 이번 기회에 다시 제대로 알아간다… 그리고 드디어 과거 시제에 대해 배웠다! 앞으로 어려워했던 시제 내용이 나올 것 같은데, 그 전에 복습을 꼼꼼히 해둬야겠다.
